Bets start on baby Rooney

He's only a day old but already bookies have started taking bets on Wayne Rooney's son.

The Manchester United striker's wife Coleen gave birth to Kai Wayne Rooney at Liverpool's Women's Hospital yesterday.

Within a few hours bookmakers William Hill gave odds of 100/1 for him to play in the Premier League, 125/1 to play for Manchester United and 150/1 to gain a full England cap.

And it seems the bookies aren’t the only ones who reckon he'll have a sporting career.

Wayne's grandmother Pat Morrey said: "We're all over the moon. Wayne and his mum Jeanette popped round earlier today to give me the news."

And it seems the couple knew the sex of the baby before he was born. Pat added: "They were expecting a boy – and we're hoping he'll turn into a little Wayne. He could be a little footballer in the making.

"Hopefully he'll play for Everton one day – but Sir Alex Ferguson might try and sign him for Manchester United."

One thing nobody seemed to guess was the baby's name – which was apparently picked by Coleen.

A William Hill spokesman told The Sun: "We have been betting on the baby's name for three months and nobody managed to get Kai."

The tot can also be backed at 1,000/1 to become Prime Minister and 500/1 to play cricket for England – I don't think any of us will be placing a bet on that!
